We invite and encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to practice Zen meditation. Zen does not conflict in any way with any religious creed.


Weekly Sanzenkai Meditation & Vegetarian Potluck- agdzc.doattend.com

Traditional "Shik-kan Taza", or "just-siting" meditation practice, and "kin-hin" or "walking meditation" to be conducted by the Zen teacher.

RULES

When coming to the temple, please observe the following rulres:

1) Be on time. Ten minutes before services begins is best.
2) No unnecessary talking.
3) Wear clean clothes and clean socks. Clean body too!
4) Your clothes should be loose fitting so that you will have little or no difficulty sitting cross-legged in meditation.
5) Please bring your own zafu (meditation cushion) and zabuton if you have one.

10:00 am- Heart Sutra, Universal Transference of Merit Chants

10:10 am- Zazen (Seated Meditation)

10:35 am- Kinhin (Walkng Meditation)

10:40 am- Zazen

11:00 am- Four Vows, Ti Sarana Chants

11:05 am- Close Zendo

VEGETARIAN POTLUCK MEAL

Customarily everyone brings their favorite potluck dish for after Sanzenkai Services.

Zen meditation does not conflict in any way with any religious creed, so please do not hesitate to join us.

Please join us at the Zen center to celebrate these traditional Zen holidays:
  • Nehan- Buddha's Paranirvana (483 BCE) February 15th
  • O-Higan March 20th, and Sept. 23rd.
  • Hana Matsuri- Buddha's birth (563 BCE) April 8th
  • Obon- Zen festival honoring our departed ancestors July 13th to 16th
  • Bodhidharma day- First Zen Patriarch (470-543 BCE) October 15th
  • Rohatsu- Buddha's Enlightenment Dec. 8th

Zen Wedding Ceremony-Please contact Reverend Thompson for your Zen wedding plans. Customarily $100 donation.

Formal Zen Membership levels- For those students who are sincere in their commitment to Zen training and wish to formalize it, he or she may request lay initiation Tokudo, and Zen Disciple ceremony. Please click on the Membership link to learn more about each of the following ceremonies.

ONGOING PRACTICE

Private instruction (Dokusan)- In the event someone cannot make it to our Sunday service or wishes individual instruction (Dokusan), private meditation can be arranged by calling Reverend Thompson at his residency telephone number 941-726-6228. Customarily donation of ten dollars per instruction is requested.
